ABOUT
Oliver Halviala, M.F.A., C.F.P, is a certified neuroplastic movement educator and author, living in Helsinki, Finland.
His decades of practice, study, and research of neuroplastic movement learning have culminated in the creation of the Moving into Sleep, a revolutionary method for reaching sleep and the Body Fine-Tuning, a science based neuroplastic approach for shaping the body-brain system to its greater potency.
My Story
I was at a stunning concert hall in Lisbon. I still remember standing on stage, violin in hand, after years of dedicated training for a competition. My violin was perfectly tuned, every note prepared. But when the moment came, I froze. I didn’t make it to the second round.
The question that stayed with me was simple yet haunting. Why could I perform perfectly on some days, and then completely freeze the next time?
It felt as if there was a hidden switch in my brain, one I couldn’t control, no matter how hard I tried.
I asked the same question years later when I developed chronic back pain. Why was the pain coming and going?
And once more, when I struggled with sleep, tired, yet unable to fall asleep. Why wasn’t it possible to simply close my eyes and sleep?
To find answers, I began to study. I wanted to understand, to locate this internal system, a switch, or perhaps a slider, that could move me from tension to ease, from struggle to flow.
That search led me to the study of somatic learning, the art of understanding and re-educating the body and its nervous system through awareness and movement.
What I discovered changed everything: I could finally access the mind–body connection and develop exercises to help me fine-tune my nervous system. And to help others I created the Body Fine-Tuning method to share the knowledge and experience.
The good news is that the Body Fine-Tuning movement exercises are easy to learn and highly effective. Sometimes, a simple movement can create the shift you need, helping you cultivate the inner calm that forms the foundation for focused productivity, greater stress resilience, and optimal sleep.
Fine-Tuning the Self
Fine-tuning isn’t just for musical instruments, it’s something our nervous systems need as well. It’s the subtle art of bringing the body and brain into better coordination, so we can move, rest, and respond to life with more ease.
When our internal “instrument” is out of tune, it can show up as anxiety, stiffness, exhaustion, or disrupted sleep. But when we learn how to fine-tune it, something remarkable happens: focus sharpens, movement feels lighter, and calm becomes a natural state rather than something to chase.
This is the heart of what I now call Body Fine Tuning — a science-based approach to activating positive neuroplasticity — effective nervous system self-care through gentle, mindful movements.
The Three Foundations of Body Fine-Tuning
1. Mindset: Be open to change.
To change and improve we need a different experience. It is crucial to have a open mindset. The nervous system fine-tuning begins with curiosity, the willingness to sense, feel, and learn without judgment. Body Fine-Tuning isn’t about striving for perfection; it’s about discovering possibility.
2. Explore & Practice: Create new experiences.
Through short and longer movement sessions, I invite you to explore and create new experiences that expand how your body and brain communicate. Each practice is an opportunity to learn and develop.
Every exercise is carefully designed and developed by me. I use them throughout the day to sustain energy, creativity, and focus, and at night to support deep, restorative sleep.
3. Sleep: Let integration happen.
Deep, restful sleep is where your nervous system does its finest work. It weaves together the changes you’ve created during the day, strengthening and amplifying your progress.
As it happens, improving sleep quality is one of my favorite topics. When sleep improves, so does everything else. Focus, energy, mood, and your ability to adapt are automatically at the next level.
A Journey of Ongoing Care
Fine-tuning your nervous system is not a one-time fix; rather it’s a constant communicating with and caring of your body, opening up doors to develop toward the potential you have within: your inner intelligence. It is a lifelong journey.
Through Body Fine Tuning, I’ll share insights of my personal journey, movement lessons, and guided practices to help you reconnect with your inner intelligence, to move, rest, and live with more ease.
Just like musical instruments need constant fine-tuning, so does our nervous system, especially its functional aspect: how it serves us in daily life. The better we learn to listen, adjust, and refine, the more harmonious and rich our life experience becomes.
If this resonates with you, I invite you to subscribe and join me on this journey of exploration and self-care, one movement discovery at a time.
